PROGRAM FUNDING

Ontario 2024 Budget (Education) News

The Ontario government is:

·         · expanding the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant.

·         · providing additional funding into nursing programs to support enrollment increases of 2,000 registered nurse seats and 1,000 registered practical nurse seats at universities and colleges.

·         · supporting a New York University medical school based in Vaughan. The medical school would be the first in Canada primarily focused on training family doctors.This project is still in its planning stages.

·         · building New Skilled Trades Training Centres and supporting a variety of programs over the next three years that focus on breaking the stigma and attracting more young people into the skilled trades, simplifying the system and encouraging employer participation in apprenticeships.

·         · expanding OYAP and launching approximately 100 pre‑apprenticeship training projects to help young people get firsthand experience working in trades, including a paid work placement with a local employer.

QUEEN’S MEDICAL SCHOOL 


"New admissions process improves equitable access to the Queen’s MD Program:" Beginning September 2025, the MD Program will set admissions thresholds for grade point average (GPA), Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), and Casper (a situational judgment test) at levels that align with the potential for predicting success in medical school. All applicants who meet these thresholds will be entered into a lottery to determine who will be invited to interviews.

The Federal Youth Secretariat: Prime Minister's Youth Council (PMYC)--Share your voice! The Council provides youth perspectives on federal priorities to inform the government's approach to addressing key issues affecting youth in Canada. The deadline is April 14. Apply now! 

 

The Vimy Foundation: Beaverbrook Vimy Prize: A 10-day experiential program in Belgium, France, and the Netherlands, awarded to outstanding youth between 15-17 years of age. The program is scheduled from August 10 to 20. Apply online before April 16.
