Information about Skilled Trades and Starting your Journey as an Apprentice
- Location: The Venu Event Space (2800 Hwy 7, Vaughan, ON L4K 1W8)
- Date: Wednesday, May 22, 2024
- Time: 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm (Students and Families can attend at any time during this period)
- There is a keynote speaker from 6:30 pm - 7:00 pm
- There is a student presentation from Support Ontario Youth about transitioning into the trades from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
- There will be a Pathways and Career Expo that includes local employers, trade unions, colleges, industry partners and associations who will be available to provide students and their families with information on career opportunities.

Studies in French as a Second Language Program (funded by the Government
of Canada): If your first official language spoken is English and you are
pursuing your postsecondary studies in French in Canada, you could be
eligible for a non-renewable $3,000 bursary. |
SUMMER COMPANY Summer Company: An Ontario Government
program for young people (ages 15-29) to start and run their own business.
The general program deadline for applications is May 17. |

June 2024 Exam Schedule Information for Students and Families
Please find the examination schedule for June 2024 below. The exam period is determined by the YRDSB/approved by the Ministry of Education; students are expected to be present for all exams.
We wish your child all the best with the exam season!
Please also review the following documents attached to this communication to help your family and child prepare for the upcoming exam period. Attached to this communication you will find:
- A detailed schedule for exams by day and room number
(Students who do not have an exam listed on the attached exam schedule should speak directly to their teachers about the assessments they will complete during the Final Exam period).

Missed Examinations Policy
- All students are required to write their final examinations during the scheduled date, time and place indicated on the examination schedule and as announced by their subject teacher. A student who misses an examination will receive a mark of “0” as the final mark for the exam.
Exceptional Circumstances
- In exceptional circumstances, alternative arrangements will be made to have the exam completed on a different date from the original schedule.
- Only under exceptional circumstances will alternative arrangements be considered for exams:
- If a medical certificate from a medical doctor
- Funeral
- Court Appearance
- Family Emergency in such instances.

Peer Tutoring Applications for 2024 -25 School Year
Is your son/daughter a Gr. 9, 10 or 11 student who achieves high
marks in their courses?
Are they interested in getting community service hours to help
other students with their homework and to prepare for tests?
Would they like to become a Peer Tutor for the 2024 - 25 school year?
If so, please ask them to see Mrs. Rosenberg in the Guidance
office to apply.

CONGRATULATIONS TO REBECCA SIRKIN who has won the Schulich Leader Scholarship for the Faculty of Engineering at Western University. Rebecca Sirkin, a graduating Westmount student, has been
selected for a Schulich Leader Scholarship for the Faculty of Engineering at
Western University. The value of the scholarship is worth $120,000. Schulich Leaders are entrepreneurial-minded
and exemplify academic excellence and leadership, creativity and
charisma. Schulich Leaders are pursuing careers in technology,
engineering, entrepreneurship and business enterprise, and applied scientific
research. The Westmount family is very proud of Rebecca and all her
accomplishments. Way to go!! |

SUMMER LEADERSHIP SYMPOSIUM The John
F Wood Summer Leadership Symposium
application deadline is quickly approaching. Our team is excited to receive
applications from your high school students who are eager to develop their
leadership skills and learn from experienced professionals. This
one-day event designed to provide students with a unique opportunity to
develop their leadership skills and gain insights into key competencies
student affairs professional indicate are essential to post-secondary
success. The symposium includes an introduction to the Ivey Case Method
Approach, strengths training, personalized seminars, speaker sessions, university

YRAA Badminton Championships
One Tuesday, April 1, Stephanie N. in Grade 10 competed at the YRAA Badminton Championships for the second straight year.
She qualified for this after winning the previous two competitions in April.
She finished 5th overall in the region, and we’re very proud of her!
