FULL DISCLOSURE DATE - GRADE 12 STUDENTS

 

Please note that semester 2 midterm marks are being transmitted to both OCAS (College) and OUAC (University) on April 25.

Therefore, April 24 is the final date to drop a course if you do not want the mark transmitted to college or university.

 

By April 18, grade 12 teachers will share midterm marks with grade 12 students. Between April 18 and April 24, students can come to the Guidance Office and fill in the paperwork to request to drop.

 

When can students come to Guidance to fill in the paperwork with their counsellor? Students can come any of the dates/times below - 

DROP IN….NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY.

Please do not come at lunch.

Students may come before school.

 


MARK MAINTAIN DATE - FULL DISCLOSURE SEMESTER 2

If a Grade 11 student would like to drop a course, they must speak to their guidance counsellor.  Forms must be filled out.  

Courses dropped by this date will not show up on the student’s transcript.

Full Disclosure date for Grade 11 students is May 7th
Full Disclosure date for Grade 12 students is April 24th

Please note, If a student withdraws from a Grade 11 or 12 course after the Full Disclosure date, a withdrawal (W) is entered in the credit column, and the student’s mark at the time of withdrawal will be recorded as a percentage in the achievement column of the transcript.

FOR GRADE 12 PARENTS/GUARDIANS AND STUDENTS

 

Please note that the deadline to pay for graduation is fast approaching. 
The FINAL deadline is MARCH 28.
 
If you would like to attend the Graduation Ceremony, please pay your grad fee of $75 through SchoolCash online.
This fee provides all Grade 12 students with their very own cap, gown and stole, which are worn to the graduation ceremony.  The cap, gown and stole can be kept as a keepsake of this major milestone.  In addition, the fee helps to defray the cost of the graduation ceremony.  Please select the appropriate sized gown (size options found on SchoolCash).  Be sure to measure your height from head to toe. 
 
**If you are not sure whether or not you paid your fee, please log into SchoolCash and check under ‘Payment History’.
 
All students who pay the graduation fee will receive 2 guest tickets.  These tickets are numbered and assigned to the student who paid the fee.  Guest tickets are non-transferable.  Students who pay the fee do not need a ticket to attend the ceremony.

The STEAM Program at U of T


The STEAM Program at U of T is a great summer opportunity for students from grades 10-12 who would like to engage in research and designing solutions to address challenges in the healthcare system.  This program “is designed with an equity focus for students identifying with groups that are underrepresented in health sciences (i.e. Black, Indigenous, Filipino, Latin American, racialized, and/or from any background experiencing socioeconomic barriers). Priority is given to students from underserved schools and neighborhoods”.

Parent/Guardian Interview Night

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Parent/Guardian Interview Night is on Thursday, April 4th from 6:30-8:30 . You will have an opportunity to meet with your child(ren)’s teacher(s) and learn more about the classroom. Families can use Edsby, an online platform, to schedule a meeting time with their child(ren)’s teacher(s) on Parent/Guardian Interview Night. You will receive an invitation to sign up for a meeting time once the schedules are available. Edsby is a cloud-based platform that lets families easily reserve times to meet with your child(ren)’s teachers. YRDSB in partnership with Edsby, has created a secure platform that protects the privacy of information for families.

Creating an Edsby Account or Using an Existing One

Families who already have an Edsby account may use their previously created account.  The username is the full email address that is on file at your child(ren)’s home school and the password is the one created at activation. If you have forgotten your password, you can find resources on the Board website to help, including how to reset your password.

Families who do not have an Edsby account will need to create one to access the online appointment scheduler for their child’s teachers for Parent/Guardian Interview Night. For help creating an Edsby account, instructions can be found on the Board website. An email from York Region District School Board with instructions on how to create an Edsby account will be sent to your email inbox. If you do not receive the email, please check your junk mail folder to ensure you do not miss this opportunity.

Families who do not wish to book a time online or require other accommodations can contact the classroom teacher directly.

Format of the Evening

6:30-7:00 pm - Meet and Greet with Teachers in the Atrium of the school. This is an opportunity for a quick chat or to meet your child's teachers and touch base. 

7:10-8:30 pm - Parent/Guarding Teacher Meetings. These meeting times are reserved mainly for teachers that have requested a meeting with parents/guardians or for parents/guardians that have specific concerns about coursework or how a student is doing.

Parents/guardians to create Edsby accounts if they do not yet have one. 

March 25th

Parent/Guardian Interview Night schedule opens at 8:30am for booking. Log into your Edsby account. An invitation to book appointments will be sent to your Edsby account and a notification to your email. Instructions for signing up for interview slots are found here .

March 25-26

Secondary Interim Reports will be distributed electronically to parents / guardians / 18+ students via the Electronic Distribution Process from the Board.

April 2

Edsby Interview Scheduler closes to parents/guardians at 3:30 pm.

April 4

  • Parent Guardian Meet and Greet in the atrium 6:30-7:00 pm. Come and meet your child's teacher in person for a quick chat or opportunity to touch base. 

  • Parent/Guardian Teacher Interviews 7:10 to 8:30 pm in classrooms with the teacher

Mini-series of Workshops for Students

A group of senior students is putting together some amazing presentations for our students! 

These series of workshops will be presented on the following topics:

Test Writing - Apr. 15, 22, 29
Exam Prep. - May 28, 29, June 3
Time Management and Organization - Apr. 9, 16, 17
Stress Management - Apr. 18, 25, May 8

The workshops will be held in the library from 11:00 am to 11:15 am.

All students have been sent an email with details and the registration form.  Please have your child register for one or more workshops if they are interested. 

The registration deadline is Friday, March 22nd @ 4 pm.

Please note: teachers will be notified that registered students will be missing the end of per. 2 to attend.

Bare Necessities Store Opening and Westmount Apparel

Bare Necessities will be re-opening Monday, March 18th during the lunch period and will remain open until Friday, May 24th .  If interested in purchasing items, including Westmount Apparel, please bring cash and student card to Mr. Coates, who will upload your student card with the cash - so you can make your purchases with a store employee.

UPCOMING SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

 

Telesat Women in STEM Scholarships: Telesat intends for this program to reflect Canada’s broad diversity and the company strongly encourages Indigenous, visible minority students, and students with disabilities to apply

Eligible applicants must identify as female; be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident; be entering or already enrolled in full-time studies of an undergraduate degree in the 2024 academic year; be enrolled in an eligible STEM program as outlined in the 2023 program guidelines; have a minimum cumulative average of 75% (or equivalent) over the last three terms of available marks; be enrolled in an accredited Canadian university or technical college

Award: Eight $5,000 scholarships.

Deadline: March 26, 1 p.m.

 

Toronto Regional Real Estate Board’s Past President’s Scholarship: Open to graduating Ontario high school seniors. A record of academic achievement, a range of leadership qualities, and community involvement are required. Judging is based on a 1500- to 1800-word essay focusing on one of two real estate related topics.

Award: Two $5,000 first-place, two $2,500 second-place, two $2,000 third-place, and two $1,500 fourth-place awards.

Deadline: March 27, 3 p.m. 

 

MAX Scholarships are available to secondary school students who identify as Muslim. Applications open March 4th.

YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange (SWSE): The SWSE is a six-week program that offers youth ages 16-17 the opportunity to travel to a community in Canada where they live and work in their second language. Your family must be able to host a youth from another

community during the exchange “but if this is a barrier, let us know and we will work with you to find a solution.” First come, first served. Program dates: June 29 to August 10.
