AN OPPORTUNITY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO STEAM
Design STEAM-D
is an experiential learning program for grades 10-12 students with an
interest in health sciences. In this program, learners get to connect with a
diverse group of university students, researchers and healthcare
professionals through a series of interactive workshops to gain exposure to a
variety of academic and career pathways available within the health sciences
field. The learners also work collaboratively on a research project using
design thinking to generate innovative solutions to existing healthcare
systems issues. The students earn a grade 12 science credit (i.e., SNC4M)
that can be used towards their college and university applications and
receive a stipend of $1600 upon completing the program. The
program is designed with an equity focus for groups that are underrepresented
in health sciences (i.e., Black, Indigenous, Filipino, Latin American,
racialized, and/or from any background experiencing socio-economic barriers).
Priority is given to students from underserved schools and neighborhoods. The
next program will run from July 2 – 26, 2024, Mon-Fri between 9:00 AM – 3:00
PM at the University of Toronto, St. George Campus (Downtown Toronto). Applications
will remain open until March 31, 2024. Those selected for interviews will be
contacted via email between mid-March and mid-April. Interviews will be
taking place in April. Please see attached brochure and link below to apply. https://temertymedicine.utoronto.ca/steam-design-program Virtual
