Healthy Democracy Student Leadership Award

Applications are now open for the 2025 Healthy Democracy Student Leadership Award.

The Healthy Democracy Student Leadership Award, a partnership between the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA), is being awarded in the amount of $1,000 to one graduating English public school student in each of OPSBA’s five regions. Award recipients are students of strong leadership skills and potential, who care deeply about their communities and furthering their own learning.

Iranian/Afghan Educator Alliance (IAEA) Persian Heritage Month Celebration

The Iranian/Afghan Educator Alliance (IAEA) is hosting a meaningful Persian Heritage Month celebration to honour the rich cultural and historical contributions of the Persian community to our society. Together, we’ll explore Persian heritage, enjoy cultural performances, and deepen our understanding of the diverse world around us.  Please see this flyer for details.

Parents, guardians and caregivers empower yourself to support your school community and enrich your child's learning experience! 

Join this 5-morning workshop series and discover how you can make a difference in your child’s education by volunteering in schools. The spring session is April 7-11, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Sharon Public School Library. Please see this flyer for more information and to register.

Victims of Crime Week

Parents, caregivers, guardians, community members and youth 11+ are welcome to attend the 3rd Annual Anti-Human Trafficking Conference in York Region.

Attend the conference at Seneca Polytechnic College King Campus on May 13 and 14, 2025 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. for an evening of learning, networking, and collaboration in the fight against human trafficking. Registration for the 3rd Annual York Region Anti-Human Trafficking Conference.

This conference brings together experts, advocates, and community members to raise awareness and education. Through engaging workshops, inspirational talks and community booths, we gain valuable knowledge and tools to protect and empower our community. Free refreshments and a light dinner will be provided.

Join the Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association (NACCA) for 
transformative opportunity aimed at supporting Black youth in York Region. This 8-week workshop series, T.E.A.C.H. Mental Health is designed to empower Black youth by providing essential mental health education and support. Running virtually from October 7, 2024, to June 17, 2025, the program offers four different cohorts to choose from, ensuring flexibility and accessibility.

Easter Seals Ontario Post-Secondary Scholarship Applications for 2025 are now open! To support students with physical disabilities, online scholarship applications are currently being accepted. The deadline to apply is Thursday, April 17, 2025.

This year, scholarships range from $500-$2,500 and include:

Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association (NACCA) 2025 Scholarship Applications

In 2025, NACCA will award scholarships to up to 11 students, providing them with financial support as they pursue their educational goals. Applicants must apply by March 31, 2025 to be considered; winners to be announced early June. We have some new scholarships to announce.

New Scholarships for 2025

  • The Health Field Scholarship for $2500 is for students who are entering health-related fields such as medicine, nursing, public health, or other healthcare disciplines.

  • Rightsline Computer Science Scholarship for $5,000 per year (for four years) + Internship (New for 2025). Awarded to a student pursuing computer science, technology, or a related field.

Graduation Information for Grade 12’s

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE GRADUATION CEREMONY

FOR GRADE 12 PARENTS/GUARDIANS AND STUDENTS

 

Please note that the deadline to pay for graduation is fast approaching. 

The deadline is APRIL 9.

 

If you would like to attend the Graduation Ceremony, please pay your grad fee of $85 through SchoolCash online.

This fee provides all Grade 12 students with their very own cap, gown and stole, which are worn to the graduation ceremony.  The cap, gown and stole can be kept as a keepsake of this major milestone.  In addition, the fee helps to defray the cost of the graduation ceremony.  Please select the appropriate sized gown (size options found on SchoolCash).  Be sure to measure your height from head to toe. 

 

**If you are not sure whether or not you paid your fee, please log into SchoolCash and check under ‘Payment History’.

 

All students who pay the graduation fee will receive 2 guest tickets.  These tickets are numbered and assigned to the student who paid the fee.  Guest tickets are non-transferable.  Students who pay the fee do not need a ticket to attend the ceremony.


Date of Graduation:  Wednesday, June 25

Venue:  Paradise Banquet Hall

Arrival for Students:  5:45pm

Ceremony Start Time: 6:30pm


 

Interview Night

Interview Night is on THURSDAY, APRIL 10, 2025 from 6:30-8:30. You will have an opportunity to meet with your child(ren)’s teacher(s) and learn more about the classroom. Families can use TeachAssist, an online platform, to schedule a meeting time with their child(ren)’s teacher(s) on Interview Night. All students in our school currently have a TeachAssist account to access information associated with their class assessments.

Families may access appointment bookings on Monday, March 17 to Monday, April 07, 2025 through the TeachAssist Parent Portal available at https://ta.yrdsb.ca/parents. From there, enter in your email address and leave the password blank, to set up a one time access link, or to reset a password that you've created. An email will be sent with a time limited link that will look similar to this:

Once logged in, parents/guardians will have the option to set up a password. For instructions on how to book an interview through TeachAssist, please click here or see below. If you have any questions about this process, please contact our main office.

If you have any challenges with meeting in-person on Thursday, April 10, 2025, please contact your child’s teacher(s) to make alternative arrangements for another day.

FORMAT OF THE EVENING

6:30-7:00 pm - Meet and Greet with Teachers in the Atrium of the school. This is an opportunity for a quick chat or to meet your child's teachers and touch base. 

7:10-8:30 pm - Parent/Guarding Teacher Meetings.

  • Parent Guardian Meet and Greet in the atrium 6:30-7:00 pm. Come and meet your child's teacher(s) in person for a quick chat or opportunity to touch base. 

  • Parent/Guardian Teacher Interviews 7:10 to 8:30 pm in classrooms with the teacher

  • Teacher locations will be posted throughout the school
